Mindful Monday: Health (part II)

‘Self care’ seems to be a phrase that has been catching a lot of attention lately. Good! When we take care of ourselves, everyone wins.

All of us are at least somewhat responsible for the wellbeing of someone or something; a child, a partner, a friend, a sibling, a parent, a pet, a job…we’re all showing up for other priorities in our lives, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s good and healthy to invest in and care for someone/thing else. The struggle happens when that person or thing starts taking over priority of self. Think of yourself like a garden. That seed is doing a lot of work sprouting, and growing, and blooming into food or a flower. But where would that seed be without water? Buried under soil, unable to do any of the aforementioned sprouting and growing and blooming business.

So, take the nap. Go for the run. Read the book. Take the bath. Drink your coffee hot. End the toxic friendship. Say ‘no’ to something you really don’t want to (but feel obligated to) do. Have a good cry. Take care of yourself, unapologetically. Then, soak in those endorphins and use them to be the best version of yourself for you, and for everyone else who gets to benefit.
